The majority of women in the US still make only 77 cents for every dollar a man earns for equal work. Women also comprise two-thirds of all minimum wage workers. Poverty rates are higher for women than for men. In 2012, the poverty rate for women was 15.4%, compared to 11.9% for men and 31% for female-headed households.
