Tim Reid is a Giraffe Hero for challenging a $392 million contract to build Navy submarines. An engineer, Reid knew the real cost would be only $90 million. When he couldn’t stop the contract, he went to Congress. The deal was cancelled and the subs were built for $89 million. Reid was fired, then reinstated after a long battle.
