The partisan gridlock hamstringing the last two Congresses is clearly reflected in the growing partisan gap among all Americans. Since 2007, most Americans have felt that the federal government should expand its role. By 2012, an overwhelming 84% Republicans agreed with strict limited government, compared with only 56% Democrats. This gap has doubled in the last three years.
