The Senate's slow acceptance of fundamentally progressive movements supported largely by younger generations may be explained by an age breakdown of this branch of the legislature. With a median age of 62 and a total of 58 Senators already past their 60th birthdays, there clearly exists a generational divide between the government and the popular movements of the day.
