Historically, suicide rates have steadily declined, though in recent years, this trend has reversed. White males constitute the vast majority of suicides in the U.S., while large minority groups experience lower than average rates of suicide for both men and women. This may be influenced by a potentially greater collective identity or sense of community within these groups. Overall, there are 3 female attempted suicides per male attempted suicide, but most fail. There are 25 attempted suicides for every completed suicide. Nonetheless, one person commits suicide every 13.7 minutes, on average.
