There is an significant overrepresentation of nonwhites among those wrongly convicted of crimes. Even more unsettling, there is a particularly extreme overrepresentation of wrongful conviction in murder cases where the victim was white, which made up 100% of all cases in which blacks were found wrongfully convicted in North Carolina. Nonwhites make up 28% of the population, but 86% of wrongful convictions.
