Although air temperature and melting glaciers are what most people consider with respect to global warming, the atmosphere and the ice caps only absorb a minute fraction of the heat generated by global warming. The overwhelming majority of the heat energy, almost ninety-five percent, is absorbed by the oceans, causing them to warm at an increased rate.
