Global energy use has increased by over 47%, while the per person average has increased roughly 10%, in the last two decades. The largest increases in consumption were in the Middle East, 170%, and China, 145%. The United States and European Union energy consumptions increased by 20% and 7%, respectively. The 2007-2009 economic crisis depressed consumption, momentarily.
