CLTs allow prospective homeowners to buy homes outright while the CLT maintains ownership of the land. This allows the homeowners to build equity. Because the CLT retains ownership of the land, the housing remains permanently affordable for future owners even after the current owners sell. Because CLTs are affordable long-term, they are an efficient use of affordable housing subsidies.
