The ideas of protectionism are making a resurgence within the United States. Perhaps a result of Donald Trump's tough talk against China and Mexico on trade, nearly half of all Americans believe that America should increase the taxes on goods produced in foreign countries. This tax on imports, often referred to as a tariff, is a controversial topic among economists, the majority of whom believe that free trade is the most attractive alternative for all countries.
