Though varying from yearly, the number of people killed in mass shootings in the U.S. has generally increased since 1982. There have been at least 20 mass shootings during Obama's presidency, including seven in 2012 that resulted in 72 deaths. A mass shooting is loosely defined as a single shooting episode in a single location involving four or more victims.
