Girls under 18 who get married are not only losing their childhood, they are often socially excluded with limited opportunities for education and employment. Child marriage among girls is most common in South Asia, especially in India which accounts for one third of the global total. Niger has the highest overall prevalence of child marriage in the world (77%). However, Bangladesh has the highest rate of marriage involving girls under age 15 (39%).
