There has been a significant increase in the percentage of the federal budget spent on Healthcare in the last three decades, from 9% in 1980 to 24% today. Defense spending has increased 3 percentage points since 2000, while money spent on Education has markedly decreased, from 17% to 13%. Pensions payout is the second largest government expenditure, 18% of spending.
