With $67.7 million from outside donors the North Carolina Senate race between Kay Hagan (D) and Thom Tillis (R) has attracted the most outside spending in Senate election history. It is possible that the race could top $90 million by Election Day. Tillis has been the most attacked candidate in the election with $31.6 million being spent on ads against him. Hagan on the other hand has only seen $6 million of that record setting number in support of her. It will be interesting to see where the votes fall after the money is done flowing.
The money that is flooding our political system is sickening. Citizens United made the system even more unfair. Read these kinds of stories makes it even harder to trust politicians than it was before because we watch the money trail from lobbyists and corporations right into the politicians pockets.
But look on the bright side. It's a great time to be a lobbyist.
