In the wake of deeply damaging scandals, Chris Christie has fallen far behind his Republicans rivals in terms of favorable public image. Less than half of GOP voters now have a favorable opinion of him, while competitors like Rand Paul and Jeb Bush enjoy over two-thirds approval ratings.

If you put this chart in the context of the Republican political scene in early 2014, it shows just how futile early predictions of presidential races can be.
I think that the GOP free-for-all which is surely coming will be quite a spectacle. If the Democrats play their cards right, the GOP nominee may come out of the primaries so beaten down that he doesn't have a chance.
