This means the 28.1% poverty and 13.4% unemployment rates blacks face, along with high incarceration figures and a wage gap, can be blamed on cultural shortcomings. Most still believe that all changes necessary to give blacks equal rights with whites have been made. Only 28% of the youngest left-leaning group thinks more needs to be done to combat racial inequality.
That's really unfortunate. It's simply not true that equality has been achieved for black people. The high incarceration rates has a lot to do with how black people are treated by the criminal justice system. I have White and Asian friends who have gotten away with a slap on the wrist for smoking pot, and even a white friend who got away with DEALING pot and he only had to do some community service. Black and Hispanic people who get caught doing the same stuff (smoking, possession) are likely to get jail sentences. Not to mention the culture of fear that there is for POC in this country. Sad.
American=born on 1st base. American male=born on 2nd. American white male=born on 3rd. Anyone who thinks a black person in this country is born with the same advantages is just plain ignorant.
