In the 2016 presidential race, nearly every candidate is viewed more negatively than positively by American voters. The only contender who upsets this trend is Independent Bernie Sanders. His 'democratic socialist' stance has inspired a populist movement that has invigorated a once long-shot campaign. While he is still relatively unknown-- 41% of voters say they have never heard of him-- Sanders' job of introducing himself to these voters is arguably easier than the job facing other candidates: convincing voters who already view them negatively to reevaluate their opinions.
