Almost 3 in 4 Americans believe that on a scale of 0 - 10 (10 being "very important"), working hard is a full 10 to getting ahead in life. This reflects perhaps a basic hope in the promises of the 'American Dream.' Citizens of many other industrialized countries do not share the same sentiments. Less than half of citizens from highly productive nations like Germany and South Korea believe that working hard is a 10 in terms of life advancement.
