16.6 million! ESPN.com has seen an increase in their daily unique visitors over the last three years. From 2012 to 2013, the site saw a 4% increase. From 2013 to 2014, that number increased 16%.
Do you think this is just a spike that will go back down after the web views from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil aren't a factor? And/or do you think the new debut of FiveThirtyEight will help keep viewership high?
The 2014 FIFA World Cup definitely played a factor in the big spike. I believe ESPN would have seen a steady increase if not for the World Cup. FiveThirtyEight was very successful. A new website aimed at an African American audience will come out in 2015 to further increase viewership. Although it will be tough to beat a World Cup year.
