A report has found that for the 200 most politically active companies, every dollar spent in campaign contributions and federal lobbying translated to $750 in federal business and subsidies-- that is, $5.8 billion spent, and $4.4 trillion received. The relationship is symbotic though. Over the last decade, an estimated 400 lawmakers and nearly 5,400 congressional staffers have become lobbyists. With their insider knowhow and connections, these former public servants are truly invaluable to private franchises seeking to promote favorable policies in Congress.
