From 1983 to 2012, 39% of female murders were committed by their former or current partners. Further unsettling, nearly a third of women throughout the world have reported experiencing either physical or sexual assault at the hands of a partner. This trend is seen in developed countries: in the US, 1-in-5 women report rape incidences; 1-in-4 suffered domestic abuse.
