Along with just about everything these days, torture remains a highly partisan issue in the United States. Torture as an acceptable practice is largely accepted by a majority of Republicans, while Democrats in favor of torture find themselves in the minority of their own party. Republican voters found a wide spectrum of torture practices acceptable, while Democrats lent only 40% approval to the most 'benign' of the choices: sleep deprivation.
