This is the largest number of Americans living in poverty in the 53 year history of published poverty estimates. How much is too much?
Are there any reliable estimates for turn of the 20th Century poverty? Are we giving the industrial revolution a run for its money?
Good questions. Life has changed since then. Per capita income in adjusted dollars was $5,000, 1/3 of what it is today. So far greater percent lived in poverty then. But from 1900-1950 we decreased poverty and we've been increasing again since then.
