I can't speak to individual families or your personal experience. However, when thinking about liberals I think of the acceptance of same-sex couples and same-sex marriage, the acceptance of equal rights and treatment for all including help to the poor, and the acceptance of minority groups (the whole immigration issue (Republicans are trying to get them out Obama is promising amnesty)... so it seems that what the liberals are saying is in line with their political actions. This makes me inclined to believe them.
