Mosquitoes are deadliest, killing with malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever and encephalitis. Mosquitoes are particularly a threat to South America, Africa and South/Southeast Asia. About half the world's population remains at risk of malaria with 219 million infected yearly. About 90% of deaths occurred in the WHO African Region. Since 2000, mortality rates dropped 42% globally and 49% in Africa.
