Pakistan is made up of different provinces and ethnicities. Created from the Indian partition, the relatively new nation is comprised of indigenous Afghans (Pashtuns), Muslim immigrants from India, (Muhajirs) and other indigenous groups. This ethnolinguistic mix has influenced divisions within Pakistani government and policy. The northern province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is comprised of the Pashtuns, who are divided between Pakistan and Afghanistan by the Durand Line - a border unrecognized by both the Afghan government, and the unruly Pashtuns who live on either side of it.
