Number of Airstrikes
The Obama Administration has launched more than 390 drone strikes, eight times more than the entire George W. Bush presidency. This increase will forever affect the psyche of Pakistani/Afghan youth, who now look to blue skies with fear. Since 2009, drones have killed between 416 and 951 civilians in Pakistan.
This is truly tragic, and utterly unjust. I can't imagine any other country being able to carry out hundreds of military strikes in a foreign sovereign nation, killing hundreds of its civilians, without there being an overwhelming international outcry. We, Americans, may be content with our government-- self-styled global defender of human rights and justice-- carrying out such usurpations of international law for national security interests, but I wonder what we will think when China or Russia begin following our example?
