Female Americans are more likely than male Americans to be in poverty. This is true among all age groups, but more so among older Americans. As Americans age, they are less likely to be in poverty, but the poverty gap between genders widens. Only 6.2% of males age 65 and older are in poverty, compared to 10.7% of females.
