Over 50% of Americans believe the government should do "a lot" in order to reduce the rate of poverty in the United States. We are a lot less optimistic about the power it has to address the problem, however, as this number drops to 40% when asked what the government can actually do to reduce poverty.
It would be interesting to see what the responses would be if the question was posed "should government do MORE to reduce poverty."
