Of the 50 states in the Union, none equally represent their populations of women and men in their state legislatures. Most don't even come close. In recent years, we have celebrated the strides women have made in reaching historic levels in the House and Senate, even as their proportion remains a mere 19%. 82.5% of female state legislators are Democrats.
