As a consequence of poverty, political instability and the 2010 earthquake, the education system in Haiti has suffered tremendously. This has lead to only about half of the children being able to attend primary school, and fewer than a quarter to attend secondary school. The illiteracy rate of people over 15 years old is an alarming 51%. One of the main problems is that teachers don’t have enough capacity or training to teach students. Recently, a $13M investment in books and school supplies was announced, as well as a school meal system to help 800k children.
