Nuclear generated electricity avoids carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise be released from the burning of fossil fuels. In 2012, almost 570 million metric tons of CO2 emissions were avoided in the U.S. because of nuclear generated electricity, equivalent to the CO2 released by almost 110 million cars.
