From 1985 to 2012, there has been an upward trend in the cost to suppress wildfires in the United States. The costliest year for wildfire suppression was 2006, costing the federal government $1.93 billion. The costs have increased from $1.1 billion in 2010 to $1.9 billion in 2012.
