It has been over four years since Congress raised the federal minimum-wage. By all of the commonly used benchmarks – inflation, average wages, and productivity – the minimum is now far below its historical level. State legislation has set a standard for higher minimum-wage rates linked to cost-of-living increases. It is past time for the federal government to follow suit.
