Since 1992, when ethnic minorities represented less than a quarter of the total population of Virginia, their proportionate representation has increased 10 points, to 33%, in just 16 years. This increase has been driven primarily by rapidly rising Asian and Hispanic populations. 83% of minorities voted for President Obama in 2008.
