In the history of the NIT Basketball Tournament, as with the NCAA Tournament, three victories seem to separate these universities from the rest. There are 12 teams that have won twice and 35 that have won once. With the exception of Dayton and Bradly, which both encountered the vast majority of their victory and runner-up titles in the 50's and 60's, the other teams have stretched their championship runs over a more gradual period of time.
