In recent decades, obesity has dramatically increased. In 1990, no state's population was more than 14% obese. Today, no state's population is less than 20% obese, and 12 are over 30%. Of the 12, 9 are in the South. The west (24.3%) and Northeast (25.3%) have the lowest obesity rates, the South (29.5%) and Midwest (29%) have the highest.
