Increasingly, employers are switching to high-deductible health plans for their workers, which cost less intervally, but have much higher deductibles when needing treatment. Men made significantly fewer emergency-room visits after the plan switch, a 24%-reduction in hospitalization the first year, which completely reversed to a 30%-increase in year-two. Women made fewer emergency-room visits only for low-severity issues.
