In our aversion to anything that could mean higher taxes or income redistribution, Americans sell themselves short in attaining popular new social programs. With around a quarter of Americans undecided, support for higher child care and education tax credits still hover just under 50%. Despite the minority of people that will truly be affected by capital gains tax, opposition to raising it far outstrips for such a measure.
