The NASA budget has been decreasing as a percentage of the U.S. budget. During the early ages of space travel in the 1960s, NASA funding was a much larger part of the U.S. budget, peaking at 4.4% of the U.S. budget in 1966. In 2012, government support of NASA was lower than ever, comprising only 0.5% of the U.S. budget.
