The likelihood of a mother giving birth to a child with Down syndrome increases with maternal age. After age 30, the percentage of children born with Down syndrome increases exponentially as mothers age. By age 40, a woman has a 1 in 100 chance of having a child with Down syndrome. (Age 34 not included due to statistical error)
