Americans value free speech highly, though many recognize its power to insult and injure. Only 22% of Americans think mocking religious figures is entirely acceptable with no reservations, a number smaller than those that think it is unacceptable in any circumstance. The swing vote, however, lies with the 43% that accepts mocking religion, but considers it as a laugh in poor taste.
