There is a decreasing percentage of Americans who volunteer at least one hour to an organization in a year. Being surrounded by very motivated college students everyday, I figured that more Americans put in service hours than is actually the case. I expected to see either a fairly steady percentage or a positive trend in volunteer work.

The National Charity League, especially the Gateway Chapter, would be interested to know this!

Sad but not too surprising--unfortunately. Secularism and Big Government have replaced many concerned citizens, churches and charities.

Sad, but then if salary is a measure of a man/woman's success, then why volunteer? I love your research and charts! very interesting. Let's bring our nation into a new era!!!

We think money=success=happiness. But volunteering is one of the best things you can do to boost happiness, and isn't that success?
