To better understand the data: in order to account for variance (a standard in crime stats), these 4 professional sports were scaled up to a population of 100,000. What do you have to say? Whether the players like it or not, professional athletes are some of the most influential role models of our nation's youth. Are these arrest rates too high and should something be done? Or relatively speaking, are these numbers reasonable and not too shocking?
What is the arrest rate for US as a whole? Is this a strong majority or minority, I would assume the latter.
Let's look at this: in 2012 the arrest rate for NFL players was 2,229. In that same year for the average male between the ages of 25-29 the arrest rate was 12,576. In this light, NFL players (though they are the ones in the spotlight) have a much lower arrest rate than the average joe. (www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=dato…)
What do you mean by "rate"? Rate usually means some number out of some number. E.g., 2000 arrests per 100,000 people.
