Not all of this food is consumed, some of it goes to waste. Because these are averages, note that the actual amount that any one person has access to varies greatly. Statistic like these have lead to claims that efforts towards solving world hunger focus too much only on increasing production, and that we should also look towards better distribution.
Here in the Salinas Valley, known as the salad bowl of the world in regards to produce productions. The lost food left in the field and desposed of at packaging plants (due to machinery occasionally mis-packaging, causing blemished bags etc.) creates a food loss measured in "Ton's." we need all the bright young minds to help us reroute this issue into more success in rescuing and distributing this bounty
