Ferguson police are much more likely to stop, search and arrest African-American drivers than white ones. When stopped, blacks are almost twice as likely to be searched as whites and twice as likely to be arrested, though police were less likely to find contraband on black drivers.

According to Fergusons website, the 2010 census information says there are 21,203 people in Ferguson. 14,297 African Americans and 6,206 Whites. Wouldn't that make the number of stops/arrests of African American's higher by sheer numbers? It is very difficult to trust the numbers without seeing the whole picture.

Difficult yes. But if the contraband hit rate is higher for one group then their arrest rate should be higher than their population %. But in this case whites are around 30% of population but only 7% of arrests despite having a higher contraband hit rate than blacks.
