Percentage of Americans Employed, 16 and Older
While there has been much excitement over the unemployment-rate reaching its lowest level in 5 years, there is still reason for concern. Labor-participation, the percentage of working-age Americans with jobs or seeking them, shrank to a 36-year low, 62.8%, plummeting with the 2007 recession. While the number of unemployed decreased by 733,000 this April, labor-participation actually shrank by 800,000.
