Drugs and alcohol can not only be dangerous for the person that uses them, but also for those around them. A person's judgment can be impaired, which can lead to harmful situations. Although we cannot always avoid situations where people are under the influence, by examining the number of crimes reported in a 7 week period of 2015 (Oct. 1 - Nov. 18) in Henrico County we can learn a lot about where these crimes related to drugs and alcohol happen.

Alcohol related crimes were also quite high with 162 DUIs reported (6 of these DUIs were under the influence of drugs), 69 counts of drunkenness, and 16 liquor law violations. These numbers come out to about 6 narcotic violations and 5 alcohol related violations a day.

In more specific terms, the place where a person is most likely to be affected by someone using drugs and alcohol is on the road. 169 of these crimes were reported in moving vehicles. This number is likely the highest due to the DUI data used. One interesting thing is that schools had the fourth highest amount of drug and alcohol related crime. You would expect schools to be safer when it comes to drugs and alcohol because they do so much to prevent it. On the other hand bars and lounges, which are places that serve alcohol, are fairly low on the spectrum.
