The three largest federal child care and early education programs are: the Child Care and Development Block Grant, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Head Start. States also invest in CCDBG and in some cases in prekindergarten and Head Start, including Early Head Start programs. Cumulative investments in these programs are significant, but still leave many young children unserved.
