Contrary to the popular myth of a lazy American "entitlement" society of "moochers", federal budget and U.S. Census data show that in 2010, 91% of the benefit dollars from entitlement and other mandatory programs went to: the elderly, the seriously disabled, and members of working households. Those who do not fall into these categories received only 9% of the benefits.
